We have lost count of the number of words we have translated into all of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Many of these memories have materialised in the form of books, others were brought to life and are now thermoelectric power stations, locomotives and other major projects, while others help saving lives.
Making a good translation requires knowing the customer’s business and therefore we have our own glossaries and a team of experts for translations in health, patent, building and engineering domains.
We understand deadlines and we always deliver on time reviewing every word thoroughly so that words do not lose their soul .
We have already helped to build power stations, locomotives and create artworks. Whether in the translation of a patent or of a web page, we seek to ensure the rigorous translation and the soul of words.
Naturally we work on a daily basis in the most widely spoken languages, including Chinese and Arabic but we go wherever the needs of the customer take us.

Created in 1992, Onoma is a company that offers translation and interpretation services and excels in the quality and scrupulous compliance with deadlines.

Our team is composed of professional translators and interpreters supported by consultants with a wide range of experience in diverse sectors and a knowledge of numerous sectors, in particular in the fields of health, construction and engineering.
We have demonstrable skills in the execution of long-term and extremely complex projects. We work with project management methodologies and procedures, maintaining a flexible and simple structure. We were one of the first companies in the field to obtain the ISO9001 certification. We base our work on rigour, discretion and confidentiality and are proud of the high degree of customer satisfaction.

Her dream and inspiration are behind the creation of Onoma. This company, founded in 1992, has since then earned the trust of its partners thanks to the competence and excellency of services provided.
Nowadays, besides managing Management Processes and Human Resources, she works as Translator and Proofreader of texts in English, German, Italian, Spanish and French.
Ester Ramos holds a degree in Modern Language and Literature, English and German studies, by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon.
Specialised in translation and proofreading of texts in a wide range of areas.

Specialised in translation and proofreading of texts in a wide range of areas, namely industry, medicine, book publishing sector, among others. Working languages: English, French and Spanish.
Bachelor’s degree in modern languages and literature – French and English, obtained at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon. Proficiency in Spanish (CEFR C2 level) obtained at the Spanish Language Institute, in Lisbon.

How we do it
Onoma’s Quality Management System follows EN ISO9001-2008 and EN15038 standards – Translation Service Providers. The follow up of the services is performed through the methodology of project management.
The translation work takes into account the Terminology, Grammar, Lexicon, Style, Formatting and Goal of the translation and receiver(s).
Our in-house translation/proofreading team enables us to distribute translation work effectively taking into account the experience of the translator in the intended linguistic pair and area.
All translated texts are fully reviewed by specialised professionals, whose mother tongue is the language of the material to be proofread.The review process takes into account the confirmation of the integrity of the content, the absence of mistakes or omissions in terms of meaning, besides the verification of the absence of spelling or grammar mistakes and compliance with any specific requirements given by the customer.
Remarks regarding terminology are immediately recorded in a glossary in order to ensure consistency in terminology.
In order to ensure the complete security of our customer’s documents, Onoma has a redundant backup system.
