Ocorreu-nos que, volta e meia, deveríamos recordar alguns tradutores famosos que influenciaram a nossa cultura e a nossa vida.
Sem margem para dúvidas, Martinho Lutero (1483 – 1546) permanece o mais importante até aos nossos dias. O fundador da Reforma e autor das 95 Teses traduziu o Novo Testamento no outono de 1521, em apenas onze semanas, tendo a Bíblia completa em alemão sido editada pela primeira vez em 1534. O texto original utilizado por Lutero foi a Bíblia grega de Erasmo de Roterdão. Não a traduziu aliás literalmente, a fim de permitir a sua compreensão pelo povo mais simples. Ainda hoje, muitas expressões idiomáticas derivam desta tradução da Bíblia, e não apenas no Alemão.
A tradução de Lutero foi sempre sendo modernizada e alterada por tipógrafos e exegetas da Bíblia, pelo que existe assim uma abundância de versões diferentes da Bíblia de Lutero. Só em 1984 uma equipa de especialistas trabalhou numa forma unificada, mas que ainda assim não é a definitiva. Em 2017, quando celebrarmos o jubileu da grande Reforma, deverá ser editada uma versão nova e revista esta tradução que tem tanto de singular como de influente.

We came up with the idea that perhaps, once in a while, we should evoke some famous translators who influenced our culture and our lives.
No doubt whatsoever, Martin Luther (1483 – 1546) is one of the most significant up to this day. The founder of the Reformation and author of the 95 Theses translated the New Testament in the autumn of the year 1521, in only eleven weeks; the full text of the Bible was published in German only in 1534. Luther’s original text was Erasmus of Rotterdam’s Greek Bible. But he did not actually translate it literally, but in a way that simple people could understand it. Many idioms used still today have their origin in this Bible translation, and not only in the German language.
Luther’s translation was later further modernised and changed by typographers and Bible exegetes and therefore we are faced with many different versions of Luther’s Bible. Only in 1984 a team of experts worked on a unified version, although it is not yet a definitive one. In 2017, when we celebrate de great Reformation, a new and revised version will be published of such a unique and influential translation.

Wir haben uns gedacht, vielleicht sollten wir ab und zu an einige der berühmtem Übersetzer erinnern, die unsere Kultur und unser Leben beeinflusst haben.
Und sicherlich ist Martin Luther (1483 – 1546) bis heute einer der bedeutensten. Der Begründer der Reformation und Verfasser der 95 Thesen übersetzte im Herbst 1521 in nur elf Wochen das Neue Testament, eine vollständige Bibel auf Deutsch erschien erstmals 1534. Luthers Originaltext war die griechische Bibel des Erasmus von Rotterdam. Er übersetzte allerdings nicht wörtlich, sondern so, dass das einfache Volk es verstehen konnte. Noch heute stammen viele Redewendungen nicht nur der Deutschen aus dieser Bibelübersetzung.
Die Luther-Übersetzung wurde später immer wieder von Druckern und Bibelinterpreten modernisiert und verändert, sodass recht unterschiedliche Versionen der Lutherbibel existierten. Erst 1984 wurde von einem Expertenteam eine vereinheitlichte Form erarbeitet, die aber auch nicht definitiv ist. Wenn 2017 das große Reformationsjubiläum gefeiert wird, dann soll eine neue und überarbeitete Version dieser so einmaligen wie einflussreichen Übersetzung vorliegen.
